I am always amazed when I come across a recipe which makes a dish that tastes significantly more complicated than it is. My colleague brought this into the office for our team brunch and it made a big impact. He made it three different ways, cheese, sausage, and with vegetables. If you are looking for a delicious dish to bring a friend’s house or whip up when unexpected company arrives at your house try this deliciously simple breakfast casserole. The recipe is as follows:
- 6 slices of regular slice white bread torn up
- 3/4 tsp dried mustard
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp pepper
- 5 eggs
- 2 cups of milk
- 2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese
Variations:
Add in 1 lb of cooked sweet Italian sausage
Add 1 cup each of green and peppers, mushrooms, and 1/2 diced onion, sauteed.
Prep:
Preheat Oven to 350 degrees.
In a large bowl add torn bread, mustard, and salt and pepper.
In a separate bowl beat eggs with milk. Mix milk mixture and cheese to the bread.
This is where you can make a different variation by adding in sausage or vegetables.
Pour into a buttered baking dish.
Bake for 45 minutes.
Serve hot.
